PUBLICATION ETHICS STATEMENT
Jurnal Visual Ideas refers to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors as the foundation of its publication ethics. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including the editor-in-chief, associate editors, peer reviewers, authors, and the publisher.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in the peer-reviewed Jurnal Visual Ideas is a vital component in building a reliable and coherent body of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the authors’ work and the academic integrity of the supporting institutions. Because peer-reviewed publications uphold the scientific method, it is essential that all parties involved—authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and affiliated institutions—adhere to high ethical standards.
The University of Widyatama, as the publisher of Jurnal Visual Ideas, takes its role seriously in overseeing all stages of publication. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, or other commercial interests do not influence editorial decisions. Additionally, the Department of Visual Communication Design and the Editorial Board of Jurnal Visual Ideas will facilitate ethical communication with other journals or publishers when necessary.
1. EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Publication Decisions
The editor-in-chief is responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published based on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance. Decisions are made in accordance with the journal’s policies and current legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult with associate editors or reviewers as part of the decision-making process.
Fair Play
Manuscripts are evaluated exclusively on academic merit, regardless of the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political views.
Confidentiality
The editor and editorial staff must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential, sharing information only with those involved in the publication process.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished content from submitted manuscripts must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s explicit written consent.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer reviewers assist the editor in making publication decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts.
Promptness
Reviewers who are unable to complete a review promptly or feel unqualified should notify the editor and withdraw from the process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential and not shared with others without authorization from the editor.
Objectivity Standards
Reviews should be conducted objectively and supported with clear arguments. Personal criticism is inappropriate.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers must identify relevant, uncited works and inform the editor of any substantial similarity with other published content.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must avoid reviewing manuscripts if they have conflicts of interest due to personal, financial, or institutional connections with the authors or related entities.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS
Reporting Standards
Authors must present accurate and detailed reports of their research and provide sufficient information to allow replication. Misleading or false statements are unethical and unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be requested to submit raw data for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism
All submissions must be original. Authors must properly cite or quote any use of other works or ideas.
Multiple or Redundant Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously or publish the same research in more than one venue.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of others’ work is essential. Authors should cite all sources that significantly influenced their study.
Authorship Criteria
Only individuals who made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research should be listed as authors. All co-authors must approve the final version and agree to its submission.
Hazards and Human/Animal Subjects
If the research involves hazardous materials or ethical concerns related to human or animal subjects, authors must clearly disclose them in the manuscript.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research. All sources of funding should be acknowledged.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If a significant error is discovered in a published article, the author must immediately notify the editor and cooperate to issue a correction or retraction.
